So spoilt . . .

Am I.

However, I will have to share the full stories with you tomorrow.

And here is why.

Lets just say;

– Much sugar was consumed by all

– My girls still love helium balloons

– People love Lolly’s!

– I have 4 bottles of low alcohol pink champagne left, and an insane amount of cider (the latter Husband will drink)

– Pretty#3 is going to be most adorably dressed baby girl this side of anywhere *swoon*

Till tomorrow

Planning . . . And how Pinterest doesn’t count!

I’m having a Baby Shower!!! Hooray!!! I’m pretty excited to show off our home again, and I have found a love for entertaining. Although, I have found some things that my pregnant belly and I are not loving. Shopping, Being   Organised. Cleaning.

I am spending a lot on Pinterest being inspired. Which was helpful maybe two weeks ago. But tonight, as I look through some of the gorgeous lolly buffets, home made buntings and delish looking desserts, I realise that will a full day at work tomorrow, and the Pretties at swimming and acro on Saturday, that my timeline is pretty slim to scour op shops looking for glass bowls and jars, or hit cake shops for sweet mini cookie cutters.

I am determined to have helium balloons, and I am determined to have a bunting/banner that says “SUGAR AND SPICE” I have a delightful assortment of sweets, I have an action plan to bake on Friday/Saturday morning, and I have a gorgeous friend, brilliant family who are also bringing treats for our guests to enjoy.

So the theme of our baby shower is pink, red, white & grey (to match the nursery!) and, of course, “Sugar and Spice, And all things Nice”. The plan is to turn our dining area into a lolly buffet, with scones, donuts, macaroons, sugar cookies and fruit platters for afternoon tea. Pink Sparkling wine, Raspberry and plain lemonade for refreshments and hot drinks for those who need it. Plus some sweet Cider for the boys to sit out the back with.

I made our invitations in Photoshop (along with some thank you cards, and an editable birth announcement so they all match) sent them out in pretty red envelopes with silver writing. My mother was horrified I’d posted her one, telling me it was a waste of a stamp, but I’m a firm believe that it’s always nice to get something in the mail at isn’t a bill – even if you’re expecting it.

I have, however, struggled to find anything to base my decorations off in my chosen colour scheme . . . But maybe that’s a good thing and my Baby Shower will simply forge its own way forward!! But until I can show off the pictures of what I’ve done, here are some of the places I found inspiration;

Pretty#3 and I are 29 weeks today . . . I had a dream about her last night, and it felt so good to feel her chubby heaviness in my arms. BUT she did look completely different to the rest of us, with black hair and so chub. My big Pretties where both long and lean, with PrettyM having reddish hair (like mine) and PrettyC being the same baby, just with a thick chunk of dark brown hair right on the top. We were so thrown by the littlest pretty looking so different that she didn’t suit any of the names on our short list!! Yikes!

I’m off for some last-minute tidying before hitting bed for the evening!!

I’ll be doing some Baby Shower prep photo updates, so watch out for those!!

Not every day is easy . . .

No denying that. Today was not an easy day, and for no real overwhelmingly clear reason.

But there where some silver linings, and in an effort to keep breathing in and out, I like to focus on those.

Reason to smile # 1

My Bump and I, with our funky pink $2 Kmart flat shoes, went out in the sunshine to pick up the two big Pretties from school. And each of them had a surprise for me . . . School Photos!!

Reason to smile # 2

We had a delivery today . . . The lollies for our Lolly Buffet at our “Sugar and Spice” Baby Shower on the weekend. It’s taken a lot of bribery to convince the Husband not to eat them . . . especially the white chocolate covered raspberry bullets!!!

Reason to smile # 3

Finding “Love Art” from PrettyC this evening on my mobile phone.

I swear, my kids are beautiful amazing little people.

Tell me about the silver lining in your day . . .

Dear Big Chain Retailers (Big W, Kmart, Target etc) . . .

I am very swollen at the moment. And although yesterday I did wake up with some oedema in my face (nothing 3 bottles of water, some asprin and a banana didn’t cure), my brain is not swollen. And because my brain is not pressing catastrophically against my skull, I’m also not overcome with the urge to suddenly wear stripy sporty type t-shirts 24 hours a day. Or long oddly square shaped sheer shirts. Or bra’s that 3 cup sizes too small (seriously I don’t know a single size 16 women with B cups – Do you not wonder why you have 85 of this size in every style??) .

Kmart appears to have elimated it’s maternity range completely, with only the above mentioned stripey sport singlet/t-shirts left. Big W has one style of jeans (in a crazy, royal blue) and some bonds maternity wear, but still only 2 racks of clothes. Target has a small range of some slightly nicer clothes, but is very limited in it’s sizing. In Myer last week I found nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada.

Now, in the last 2 years as my weight has pushed me into the size 16 and above category I have found it more difficult to shop for clothes. Nice, young, funky clothes. But never more so then now that I have a bump to accommodate.

Now there are some beautiful maternity clothes avalaible online or in places like RIPE, Pumpkin Patch or SOON maternity. But most of their office appropriate shirts/tops start at $45-$50, and frankly I just can’t justify $250 on just tops for the next 6 weeks of my life (not when there is much more fun things to buy, like cloth nappies, baby headbands and pretty lamps for the nursery!!). I would love to buy one or two really nice tops to wear during meetings and contract presentations, to rotate with some nice staples. But I’m fast running out of options, and with these big chains abandoning our niche market in such a fashion, I’m tempted to take maternity leave early!!

So help a lady out – How did you make your wardrobe stretch through those last few months?? Where are your favourite places to shop for basic staples??

Clearly I’m a “list” girl . . .

April is a busy month for us this year. Heck so is May. In fact, we pretty much have a social event planned every weekend till Queens Birthday weekend in June. Not great in the late stages of pregnancy, but I do keep telling myself it’s better then having them in the first few weeks of newborn-ness.

Possibly more annoying me, with the except of today’s wedding adventure, most of the social events are ours!! Next weekend we’re throwing a Baby Shower (My Baby Shower with PrettyM was booked too late and she’d already arrived, and I didn’t need one for PrettyC, so this will be my first one!), followed by Husbands birthday on ANZAC day, PrettyC’s birthday two days later, her party (at McDonald’s thank goodness!), then mothers days, a sneaky quick Babymoon, My 30th and then queens birthday! Yikes!!!!!!

We had PrettyM’s party at home in Feb, and most of our extended family came to that to check out our new home, so I am feeling some pressure to have some more “things” done around the place. Things like;

– More Art on the walls

– Finish off PrettyC’s room a bit more

– Nicer curtains in the lounge.

– Definitely need curtains up in nursery.

At this rate, I’ll need to take the week off work!! That list is depressing. Alright, lets look at the recent things we HAVE done to the house.

– Added to our front garden

– Painted our “wing fence” surfmist to match the garage door

– Pebbles and pavers to the front door

– Repainted the front door

– New pots to the front yard.

– Some decor beginings in the girls bathroom

– Picture rails in the entry hall (desperately need some coordinated frames for this though!)

Wanna see???

It’s a work in progress!!! Baby steps, I keep telling myself, Baby steps!!

What do you need/want/wish you could do around your house this week?? Share your projects with me, I need some inspirations!!

When I had my two big pretties, we where renting. With PrettyM I was able to put up removable decals in her nursery, but there wasn’t a huge range of them 8 years ago. They where “Henry’s Nursery” themed and we teamed them with Yellow and Purple accents, a Yellow bookcase and light brown wood. By the time PrettyC came along, we’d moved and C slept in with us. We even abandoned the change table, opting for a caddy of supplies we carried to various rooms in the house. PrettyM had a big girl bed, but no theme to her room.

I have loved having our blank canvas of a house to play with decorating wise. It’s a work in progress, and some times it feels too big and I wish it was done already, but most of the time I love just being here.

We were so lucky to be able to get a 4 bedroom house, and we will originally signed the contract for this house, 2 years ago, I was pregnant. It seemed perfect, 3 bedrooms in the “kid wing” of the house, and three kids to fill them. We signed our contract, the following weekend was easter and so with our Easter wishes to our family and friends, we announced that we were expecting our first home and our third baby. Sadly, that baby left us after 13 weeks and after a traumatic hospital stay, we were left with our beautiful home plans but with one flaw – an empty fourth room.

Throughout the build this empty room was a heavy burden. There where days I couldn’t even go into it. I wasn’t sure we would ever have another baby, my husband didn’t really want to try again, afraid we’d have to go through all that pain again. I made plans to have a “craft/sewing/scrapbooking room” but I was never really sure I’d be able to enjoy our little empty room for myself. I knew it would always be “the room that isn’t the nursery”. When we moved in, we put boxes in there that we didn’t know what else to do with yet.

We found out I was pregnant about 2 weeks after. It was like she waited until we moved.

At 14 weeks, 3 days after Christmas, after we’d told everyone, I began to bleed and I was convinced that this pregnancy was all over . Again. I was devastated and Husband was heartbroken.

As miracles would have it, we were both amazed to have another scan that showed our Pretty#3 was perfectly fine. My little girl was a fighter. Even so I promised myself we wouldn’t purchase anything or do anything in the nursery until I hit the 24 week mark. Viability.

Today I am 28 weeks. We’ve taken our time, but I am finally letting the excitement of this take over. Last weekend, we painted our nursery. I think Husband must have said to me about six times “W . . . we’re painting a nursery!” The man makes me swoon.

Sooo . . . lets talk colours!!! OMG it was so hard to choose! I didn’t want to go too girly, but I did want something that I could update when she gets a bit bigger. It also had to be somewhat neutral, as we plan to upgrade the house in 3 or 4 years and would probably need to sell.

After weeks of searching Pinterest . . . I decided on Grey, Red and Pink. And this little mousey from IKEA was my main inspiration;

Isn’t she sweet??

A very, very generous girlfriend of mine has given us a beautiful cot and change table in a dark stained wood, which has now been set up and we’ve painted the walls in Dulux “Silkwort”

And here is the fabric I plan to use for little projects . . . curtains, mobiles, cushions, lampshades.

I’m currently putting together a list of all my favourite nursery/kid’s room blogs for inspiration . . . I promise I’ll share them with you soon!!
