Planning . . . And how Pinterest doesn’t count!

Posted on

I’m having a Baby Shower!!! Hooray!!! I’m pretty excited to show off our home again, and I have found a love for entertaining. Although, I have found some things that my pregnant belly and I are not loving. Shopping, Being   Organised. Cleaning.

I am spending a lot on Pinterest being inspired. Which was helpful maybe two weeks ago. But tonight, as I look through some of the gorgeous lolly buffets, home made buntings and delish looking desserts, I realise that will a full day at work tomorrow, and the Pretties at swimming and acro on Saturday, that my timeline is pretty slim to scour op shops looking for glass bowls and jars, or hit cake shops for sweet mini cookie cutters.

I am determined to have helium balloons, and I am determined to have a bunting/banner that says “SUGAR AND SPICE” I have a delightful assortment of sweets, I have an action plan to bake on Friday/Saturday morning, and I have a gorgeous friend, brilliant family who are also bringing treats for our guests to enjoy.

So the theme of our baby shower is pink, red, white & grey (to match the nursery!) and, of course, “Sugar and Spice, And all things Nice”. The plan is to turn our dining area into a lolly buffet, with scones, donuts, macaroons, sugar cookies and fruit platters for afternoon tea. Pink Sparkling wine, Raspberry and plain lemonade for refreshments and hot drinks for those who need it. Plus some sweet Cider for the boys to sit out the back with.

I made our invitations in Photoshop (along with some thank you cards, and an editable birth announcement so they all match) sent them out in pretty red envelopes with silver writing. My mother was horrified I’d posted her one, telling me it was a waste of a stamp, but I’m a firm believe that it’s always nice to get something in the mail at isn’t a bill – even if you’re expecting it.

I have, however, struggled to find anything to base my decorations off in my chosen colour scheme . . . But maybe that’s a good thing and my Baby Shower will simply forge its own way forward!! But until I can show off the pictures of what I’ve done, here are some of the places I found inspiration;

From Project Nursery – http://www.projectnursery.com

From Catch My Party – http://www.catchmyparty.com

From Hello-Naomi – http://hello-naomi.blogspot.com.au

Pretty#3 and I are 29 weeks today . . . I had a dream about her last night, and it felt so good to feel her chubby heaviness in my arms. BUT she did look completely different to the rest of us, with black hair and so chub. My big Pretties where both long and lean, with PrettyM having reddish hair (like mine) and PrettyC being the same baby, just with a thick chunk of dark brown hair right on the top. We were so thrown by the littlest pretty looking so different that she didn’t suit any of the names on our short list!! Yikes!

I’m off for some last-minute tidying before hitting bed for the evening!!

I’ll be doing some Baby Shower prep photo updates, so watch out for those!!

Clearly I’m a “list” girl . . .

April is a busy month for us this year. Heck so is May. In fact, we pretty much have a social event planned every weekend till Queens Birthday weekend in June. Not great in the late stages of pregnancy, but I do keep telling myself it’s better then having them in the first few weeks of newborn-ness.

Possibly more annoying me, with the except of today’s wedding adventure, most of the social events are ours!! Next weekend we’re throwing a Baby Shower (My Baby Shower with PrettyM was booked too late and she’d already arrived, and I didn’t need one for PrettyC, so this will be my first one!), followed by Husbands birthday on ANZAC day, PrettyC’s birthday two days later, her party (at McDonald’s thank goodness!), then mothers days, a sneaky quick Babymoon, My 30th and then queens birthday! Yikes!!!!!!

We had PrettyM’s party at home in Feb, and most of our extended family came to that to check out our new home, so I am feeling some pressure to have some more “things” done around the place. Things like;

– More Art on the walls

– Finish off PrettyC’s room a bit more

– Nicer curtains in the lounge.

– Definitely need curtains up in nursery.

At this rate, I’ll need to take the week off work!! That list is depressing. Alright, lets look at the recent things we HAVE done to the house.

– Added to our front garden

– Painted our “wing fence” surfmist to match the garage door

– Pebbles and pavers to the front door

– Repainted the front door

– New pots to the front yard.

– Some decor beginings in the girls bathroom

– Picture rails in the entry hall (desperately need some coordinated frames for this though!)

Wanna see???

It’s a work in progress!!! Baby steps, I keep telling myself, Baby steps!!

What do you need/want/wish you could do around your house this week?? Share your projects with me, I need some inspirations!!

Getting to know you . . .

Hello again! Who can believe it’s Wednesday already!! Gotta Love a short week!

So following on from the previous post;

The not-so Favs

1. High-risk pregnancy. I tell you what, this pregnancy caper was a stack easier when I was 21!! Having said that, even M’s pregnancy ended in Pre-eclampsia, followed by HELLP (which we didn’t find out until later when I needed my gallbladder out because my liver still hadn’t repaired itself). M was 4 weeks early, by an elective c-section because my blood pressure was just too high to risk an induction. But we were incredibly lucky as she was simply perfect. PrettyC’s pregnancy ended in a similar way, although not as serious. This pregnancy has been exceptional so far. We had a big scare at the end of our first trimester, but other than that my health has been great. My blood pressure is almost low, which is amazing. I’m due for my glucose challenge shortly, so it will be nice to cross diabetes of the list as well. Being in the high-risk category means I’m getting good care, but it also feels like a ticking bomb, and makes enjoying pregnancy a bit of a juggling act. It also means that if I mention any niggle or negative on Facebook, 25 of my family and friends insist I go to my OB for a checkup.

2. Stress. My life isn’t perfect, no ones is. The fact that Husband is home and only works part-time means that our budget is tight, and trying to juggle everything is not easy. I’m also a bit of a super control freak, and I insist on taking on a lot more than perhaps I need too. We’ve been trying to refinance our house since we moved in, and I’m over dealing with brokers and banks and government departments. Over. It.

3. Time. Or lack there of. It took me a long time to let go of all the things I couldn’t do anymore when I went back to work. I used to teach scrapbooking techniques, heck, I used to actually scrapbook. I used to make cards. I used to  bake for my girls. I’m looking forward to being that mother again. And I’m even trying to slow down things in our lives towards the end of this pregnancy so I can start taking some of this time back for our family again (although, seriously, we have a social event or two every weekend till June!!!) But if I had a magic lamp and genie I’d wish that I had boundless energy and that there was 35 hours in everyday so that I could fit the baking, crafting and general lounging about in! Of course, I’d probably end up at work for most of that time!!!

4. Turning Thirty. I’m so ashamed that I’ve turned into *that* women. Who dreads their birthday. I swore I’d never EVER be hung up on age. And lots of people tell me I’m young. Part of if it might come from that fact that I wanted to be ‘done’ babywise by my 30th, and I’ll miss that by a couple of months. I’m trying to be positive and remember that this will be a whole new chapter for me, my girls and our family.

5. Weight. Like lots of women, I’m much heavier than 1) I’ve ever been and 2) I should be. I’m eating fairly well during this pregnancy (although, my craving for milkshakes not helping. Think of the Calcium, Think of the Calcium) but still I can’t do as much exercise as I’d like because of my stomach muscles having already separated, and my general exhaustion. I’m hoping to work on this while at home with the baby.

So now you know the good AND the bad!!

Tomorrow I’m planning to reveal our plans for the nursery, which we painted over the long weekend, and thanks to the awesome Spotlight sale, I got some lovely fabric and awesome curtains for.

Have a lovely day!!

Well, getting to know me, I guess!! Given that I honestly could write a thesis on who I am and how my life works, I thought I condense that down into 10 basic points; 5 of my favourite things about our life, and 5 of my not-so-favourite things. Ready? Lets go!

The Favs

1. I’m pregnant! Pretty#3 has been a long project. There won’t be a 6 year age gap between my middle and youngest child on purpose, and so I’m determined to enjoy every moment of this pregnancy. Even the swollen ankles. Did I mention my ankles are swollen yet? Cause they are. Lots. But every little kick, every hiccup, every pair of pants that won’t do up around my belly make it all worth it. We still have quite a bit to go, but I already talk as a Mother of Three. And I can’t wait for her to arrive.

2. Our house. There were some darker times a few years ago that I really thought we were going to be stuck in the rental trap forever. We kept having to move after our landlords would sell, it got to the point where Pretty M had had more bedrooms then birthdays. We stumbled upon a state government program that allowed families to build their own homes in order to get into the property market. It was a dream come true. I love every aspect of our home, and whilst there are some things I wish we had, I wouldn’t change anything. It’s perfect for our first house, and even though we may need to upgrade in a few years time . . . I think we’ll struggle to say goodbye to this place.

3. My husband. We’re pretty lucky. My husband is home during the day, and is willing to head out to work part time at night. Despite his many university qualifications, and the fact that he’s currently doing his doctorate, he does some pretty dull night fill work for a large hardware chain. And even more then that, he enjoys it. His research is pretty incredible, but there are many years to go. This works for us for the most part. It means that until he works at the university full time, he’s home to pick the girls up from school and will be home with the baby when I go back to work next year. When he is working full time, we’ll reassess my working arrangements. We think it’s important to have one of us home for them all the time, and are willing to make the sacrifices to ensure that happen.

4. Coffee. It may have come from spending so much of my adult career working in Melbourne’s CBD, but I love a good, strong, barista coffee. We have a coffee machine, but admittedly I rarely use it. In my current condition I’m down to one or two coffee’s per day, and so early in the morning I stick to instant, so that I don’t wake the kids up before 7am. Depending on how the first half hour at my desk goes, I may escape downstairs for a proper coffee from the cafe at work. Otherwise I’m drinking decaf instant. Coffee is my soft drink. A hot drink calms me down, and refocuses me.

5. A whole house to decorate! I’m a bit of a frustrated interior designer. I love playing with colour, and features and layouts. I’ve been dreaming of all the possibilities for every room in our house. Of course, the only rooms I’ve actually done is PrettyM’s. And even that room I’m already keen to move the furniture around! Lucky you, we’ve only just put the first coat of paint on the nursery, so you’ll be able to share in our nursery decorating as it happens. I have some big plans for PrettyC’s room too. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the effort of painting the tree . . . or if I should just buy a decal. I’ll share some pics of the girls rooms soon.

So thats my current 5 Favourite things about our life right now. The not-so-favs . . . coming soon!!

Why, Hello there!

Posted on

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Here is my new blogging adventure; 3 x pretty. Why the name? Our home is trying it’s best to make the world three times as pretty, with three beautiful little girls growing up in it. Well, two and a half little girls currently. Pretty # 3 is due in July, 2012. This another reason for the blog adventure, to capture these last weeks of what is very likely to be my last pregnancy. Unless we win lotto. And even then I’d probably go rescue some babies from overseas, rather then put up with the swollen ankles and separating stomach muscles again. Sigh.

This isn’t my first blog, in fact I’m no stranger to the blogging world. My last blog was listed under my full name and dedicated mostly to scrapbooking, which I was teaching etc in at the time. It also happened that our middle child was born during this journey as well, and I often read back through my old blog posts with a smile. So I’m looking forward to telling our stories, sharing our laugher, our hopes and our failures. I’m looking forward to becoming a stay-at-home-mum for the first time in 5 years, even if it’s only for 8 short months.

So the journey begins today – Easter Sunday. Which is fairly apt given the symbolic nature of today, don’t you think?

I hope you like it here 😉
